A small stone on the rail
A pale stone rests where two painted wooden rails meet. Close-up photography by Lu Heng.

A pale stone rests at the foot of an upright rail. A small blue mark on its surface picks up the colour of the painted wood beside it.
The rail carries the eye into the distance, but the stone holds it here. Beside its rounded edge, the grain, cracks and layers of paint become easier to see.
