The white anchor occupies almost the full height of the picture. Its long crossbar tilts across the sky, while the curved lower arms rest on paving rather than in the sand. Beyond it, a much smaller lighthouse stands on the breakwater.

Two upright shapes give the view its depth. The anchor is close enough to show its worn surface; the lighthouse is a slender mark between the shore and the open water.
