A lamp beneath the eaves
Warm light on a wooden post meets the blue of the evening beyond a thatched roof. Photography by Lu Heng.

The lamp is small, but its light travels down the wooden post. Above it, the roof becomes a dark band, with loose ends of thatch hanging into the blue.
The trees beyond are blurred. The sharpest edge stays close, where the lit wood meets the shadow, so the view moves between the space under the roof and the open evening outside.
