Arms raised, folds below
A close view of a sculpture sets pale arms against a patterned red-brown garment. Photography by Lu Heng.

The nearer arm fills the left edge; the other curves above the head. Between them, the face appears in profile. Below, the reddish garment turns into folds and small ridges.
The close crop leaves out much of the figure. It brings together two ways of shaping a surface: the smooth curve of an arm and the busier pattern of the clothing.
