Mountain coast and calm sea under soft cloudy sky

This picture displays a vast expanse of ocean, lined by mountain coast jutting out into the sea. The sea is a pale grey with slight ripples in all directions. The sky is full of alternating light and dark clouds. A chink opens in the clouds and admits some faint brightness, which casts a faint brightness on the water, producing a light spot near the horizon. The restless sea is striking as well: The dark mountain coast stands against the lighter sea, edged by thick trees that climb its face. “There are little houses and paths that connect the land and water where the land meets the water. The form of the coast leads the eye from near shore to distant headland. On each side of the bay, the mountain mass forms a strong line, while the open water spreads wide and calm. The colours are cool, with blues and greys coming together in harmony. The scene seems both hushed and expansive as the water, mountains and sky seem to converge in a single frame.”
