Weathered wooden boat on blue water
A weathered blue-and-white wooden boat rests against an unusually spare field of water, sky and softened shoreline.

A weathered wooden boat rests within a spare expanse of blue water and clear sky. Faded blue-and-white paint, a raised stern and an upturned bow give the vessel the graceful profile of a traditional sailing craft. Several slender bare poles rise above the hull, their slight angles adding delicacy to its long horizontal form. Softness around the boat and distant shoreline lends the image a dreamlike quality, turning the background into muted bands of green and grey. The water takes on the colour of the sky, bringing the composition close to an abstract study in blue. With so few elements competing for attention, the worn boat seems to hold its own quiet history against an indistinct, almost timeless setting.
