A glass catching the light
A stemmed glass catches warm light above its reflection on a dark table. A photograph by Lu Heng.

The bright background light fills the bowl of the glass with gold. Its thin stem leads down to a coaster and a reflection on the tabletop.
Farther back, the lights have lost their edges. The glass stays sharply drawn against them, so the eye moves between a small, distinct object and the softer glow of the room.
