Sunbeam inside a sandstone slot canyon
A shaft of sunlight enters a narrow sandstone passage, illuminating curved striations and deepening the contrast between warm stone and shadow.

Warm sandstone walls curve around a narrow slot canyon, their layered surfaces flowing in orange, brown and muted grey. A shaft of sunlight enters through the opening above and cuts into the darker passage, picking out striations and smooth, wave-like contours shaped by erosion. Bright ridges stand beside deep recesses, giving the confined space a striking sense of depth. The beam softens some edges even as it reveals the texture of others, making the solid rock seem to fold around the light. A small photographer’s watermark remains unobtrusive in the corner. The scene’s otherworldly quality comes from the meeting of light and stone: a fleeting illumination revealing forms shaped over a far longer span of time.
