Flowers above the rooftops
Red flowers on a sunlit table, with rooftops and towers beyond the window. A photograph by Lu Heng.

The red flowers are close enough to touch. Beyond the window, rooftops overlap and towers rise into a pale sky. Their scale changes as the eye moves from the small pot to the city outside.
The table stays in the picture, along with the flowers’ shadow and the edge of a chair. You can look out over the city without losing the sense of sitting beside a window.
