Oosterdam on the open sea
The cruise ship Oosterdam spans a broad expanse of rippled water, with a much smaller boat alongside.

Seen from above, the Oosterdam stretches across a broad expanse of open water. Its white decks rise above a black hull in neat horizontal tiers, lined with balconies and windows; orange lifeboats and the angled funnel punctuate the ship’s long profile. Soft light picks out the upper decks, while ripples break the surrounding sea into shifting patches of blue and grey. A small boat alongside makes the cruise ship’s scale especially clear. No land enters the frame, leaving the vessel and its smaller companion surrounded by water. The photograph retains the calm and elegance associated with ocean travel, while the contrast between the two boats brings the ship’s immense size into focus.
