Blue at the heart of the fire
Blue, yellow and white flames rise from logs seen close against the darkness. Photography by Lu Heng.

The logs reach toward us from the brightest part of the fire. Their split edges and dark bark remain visible beneath flames that are almost white at the centre.
Look beside that brightness and the blue becomes easier to see. It threads upward through the yellow, while the black surroundings leave little else to draw the eye.
