Liberty Square and Taipei’s cityscape from above
An elevated view brings Liberty Square’s monumental architecture, formal gardens and surrounding Taipei skyline into one expansive composition.

From above, Liberty Square in Taipei’s Zhongzheng District unfolds in a precise arrangement of buildings, gardens and open space. The white, blue-roofed gate anchors the foreground, while the National Theater and National Concert Hall face one another across the plaza with red pillars and orange roofs in the Chinese palace tradition. At the rear stands the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, its white walls and octagonal blue-tiled roof marking the central axis. Formal gardens and tree-lined paths extend the square’s geometric order. Beyond them, the modern city rises towards the skyline: Taipei 101 stands to the left, and distant mountains form a natural boundary beneath the blue sky. The photograph brings Taiwan’s cultural heritage and contemporary urban development into one view, showing how this monumental public space sits within a much larger city.
