A Message in the Sunlight

This image conveys the sense of a serene, warm afternoon in a park. Foreground Old tree stump at first glance. It’s black and gritty, was cut a long time ago. Its auve surface has been inscribed upon with light blue chalk. The slightly sloppy words, written in chalk, read “Once I was beautiful.” It’s a sad and pensive letter. It does make you think about the now felled tall, robust tree that once stood here. A big green-leafed tree stands behind the stump. Bright sun is shining from behind them. Some of the light shines through the leaves, they look bright and almost natural. The light is powerful and warm it is a glowing haze over the entire scene.

Further back you can see a grassy clearing. A bare bones metal swing set is visible off in the distance. Further beyond that, a line of serene houses rest beneath the mild, radiant sky. The background is all a bit out of focus, softened up a bit by the lovely late afternoon light. The image relates a little story. The charred stump with its message is crisply focused, while the vibrant park beyond it is dreamy and blurred. It’s a contrast to a sign of something that has finished, and the life that goes on around it. The warm light adds a feeling of tranquility to the scene, but the words bring a little sadness.
